USRA Desert Round 8 - Bull Hollow Hare Scrambles

Presented by Rough Riders M/C

June 20, 2009

Round 8 of the USRA is now behind us and it was a great event. The Bull Hollow facility has a great outdoor style moto-track featuring a nice variety of natural terrain and numerous elevation changes. To top it off there is an excellent variety of desert terrain on the property, ranging from technical rocky sections to high speed fields. Lots of turns, singletrack, and awesome berms all around.

Race day was Saturday, June 20. Due to the small course and small starting line, each division ran separately. Mini's started first around 8:15 and ran for 1 hour. Experts started at 9:30 and raced for 2 hours. Amateurs were next and were slated to run 2 hours as well, followed by Novice for 1.5 hours, and Quads wrapped up the day.

The weather started out great with nice comfortable temps and cloud cover all day long. As the day went on the wind picked up, and towards the end of the novice race the rain moved in and made things interesting for the final two races of the day.

In the expert race, some poor course markings caused a few issues for some riders, including one who missed a check and was disqualified. Shawn Strong put in a great ride, but due to course markings most of the field rode a shorter course than he did. Despite this he battled back to fourth 2 times and finished in 3rd. A great ride put in by Jeramie Young, who moved up to Expert from the Amateur ranks mid-year and finished with a top 5.
